The standard organization of Nigeria (SON)

The standard organization of Nigeria (SON) is the government agency responsible for the formulation and implementation of quality standards for imported goods and domestically manufactured products in Nigeria.
Description
In order to ensure that the controlled products comply with the approved national technical standards or other international standards, and to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe products or non-conforming products, the National Bureau of standards of Nigeria has decided to implement the pre shipment mandatory conformity assessment procedure for the controlled products exported to the country.

At present, SONCAP certification mainly involves two steps: SONCAP = PC + COC
1. The exporter or manufacturer applies for PC certificate; PC is the abbreviation of product certificate.
2. The exporter applies for COC certificate; COC is the abbreviation of certificate of conformity.

The SONCAP certificate is a necessary legal document for the controlled products to go through the customs clearance procedures in Nigeria. The lack of SONCAP certificate will cause the controlled products to be delayed or refused to enter the domestic market in Nigeria. In particular, SONCAP is applicable to controlled products, and other import procedures stipulated by the Nigerian government are still valid.
